somewhere across
the world

someone sneezes,
and this puff
ignites
trickling teasing,
never easing
that someone is
thinking of you.

the hem of a new skirt
nervousness sewed
her lips together
nails clutching self-
consciousness,
til she saw him,
and fear unravelled
like a thread
purposely
hung loosely, with
hope.

the dreamer
dithering on the
sidewalk
pacing,
heartbeat racing,
gravitating towards
the doorbell
to deliver mail not
returned,
because he had
locked it up safe
and now had the
key
but human, resolve
melted
receding from the
shoreline
into the very
comfortable depths
of reason
but he would be
back tomorrow.

for those who spent
evey waking
moment
with roses and
delilahs
who lived for only
one day marked on
the calendar;
when winter was
warm
if spring only but
bloomed in tender
hearts.

i think of
quiet longings

and

secret poems
that the memory of
you provides the ink
for;
or how you turn my
mind,
a blank canvas in
class,
a steal away from
reality,
a nib nudging your
name in whorls.

it seems that you are
somewhere across
the world

but in my world,
you are only but
right beside me.
